Design For Play
In the elective Design for Play we started by recollecting how we played when we were young and even now. The space the interactions that happen. We observed from our conversation that play happens on its own there need not be any time or limit in which it happens. We understood the idea of play further by learning about the types and characteristics of play.
Reflections
-We realised that often we decide what games children should play, and how they should play. Over here we decided to allow these children to play these games the way they want to, by providing minimal instructions.
-The use of hidden concepts helped us the broaden our ways of looking at the game and the concept itself. For example for mental strength we would always talk about how puzzles are the only to strengthen a person’s mental strength, but in this module we realized a lot of physical activity can also help to develop perseverance.
We went back to our childhood and shared some of our core memories with play and how we used use toys in the way it wasn’t meant to but how we felt like with our own imagination , discussed our experiences and wanted to bring the same joy the same feeling through our play.
About the play I developed -
The hidden element I was working on was curiosity .Curiosity helps children be more observant and to think about things and try to figure them out. Unstructured play is the best way to encourage and nurture your child’s sense of discovery. Children are naturally curious because they are learning through every experience and social interaction they have. To expand on this, we created a deck of cards with a series of questions that would pique someone's curiosity, as well as questions that would make you more conscious of your surroundings, senses, and actions, such as how many steps it takes you to leave your room?
